GTA IV gets top marks for being an excellent interactive experience, but its success as an actual game isn’t quite as impressive. The main problem is that . GTA 4 has that level of excellence . So therefore I can’t vote in The Best Game Ever section so I’m putting this in the Big Bust section (which it isn’t) it just ain’t the best game ever. GTA IV is the first console game in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode, which contains fifteen different game types.
GTA 4 brings us back to familiar territory in Liberty City, a mock version of New York; and things looks very different from when we last saw it in GTA 3. This new game tells the story of Niko Bellic, an Easter European man who literally arrives fresh off the boat in the USA in hopes of grabbing hold of the American dream. GTA has always been a franchise predicated upon two things almost diametrically opposed: story and the ability to make your fun. It, along with its characters, does borrow heavily from many story types that have become commonplace in movies and television, such as the omage to the Sopranos in the game, but Rockstar does a great job of weaving them into a run ride which always leaves you wanting to know what happens next. GTA IV reinvents the series with a renewed version of Liberty City detailed to the last pothole and rooftop vent. There are now four boroughs to explore plus extra area outside of Liberty City proper.
GTA breaks this trend by actually looking more impressive upon closer inspection. City blocks have details that make even the most plain of buildings usable as a landmark. GTA4 is 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Let me tell you why . GTA IV ’s focus is less on the world itself and more on the people populating it. If San Andreas was built around exploring a physical world, GTA IV is about exploring a social one.

GTA IV is now the number one game played on the Xbox 360 and an impressive 12 million achievements equaling over 100 million points have been unlocked by gamers. GTA IV actually discourages the typical GTA immorality and encourages the player to strive for the protagonist’s personal redemption. Niko Bellic isn’t trying to rule the world; he’s an average joe who wants to live the American dream, and that’s what he’s constantly struggling toward. GTA IV raises the bar in this respect. The level of detail is so acute on so many levels, it’s possible to get lost in the game without even progressing the main storyline missions.
