Why are people spending so much money on rare Nintendo Nes games? Is it worth it? Help.?
I recently just started collecting Nes Games and boxes. Some games like Contra and Super Mario 3 are overly priced. People say they are rare, but I have seen plenty of them on eBay and Amazon. Someone times if the box is sealed, people want hundreds of dollars. The 1990 Nintendo Championship cartridge, which only 90 available in the world is about $10-20 grand.Why pay that if reproductions are $50. Do you think collecting these items is an investment or not worth the trouble? I am on a budget and I can't see myself spending $20 dollars on one cartridge from 1985. How do I build my collection without going broke? If you collect these how do you feel and do you have any tips?
It's like collecting baseball cards or stamps - colecting for collecting's sake. If all you want to do is play the game, get an emulator or virtual console and your set!
I feel your pain regarding the prices. Contra is not a Rare Game, nor is Mike Tyson's Punch-Out for example. You'll see them priced for $25 or more though, and there's tons of copies of those games out there. They're just popular games, not rare games.
How to build your collection? It's not as easy as it used to be because too many sources are aware of the value in these games. I'd say flea markets, but most dealers overprice even there. One suggestion: buy games in "Lots" on Ebay (package deals). Shipping is often high, but if enough games are included, the cost/game can be remarkably low.
