What's so different about World of Warcraft: Cataclysm?
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the third MMORPG expansion released by Blizzard Entertainment. With over 12 million subscribers, it is by far the most popular MMORPG out there.
Set in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, the dragon, Deathwing the Destroyer, has returned from an elemental plane called Deepholm causing a cataclysm, known as The Shattering, which results in further conflicts between the Alliance and Horde, and a surge in Elementalists.
The new expansion includes state-of-the-art graphics, an increased level cap of 85, an increased professional skill cap, new classes: the Worgen for the Alliance, and the Goblins for the Horde. There are a new quests, zones, dungeons, raids, battlegrounds and towns.
This means the geographical layout of Azeroth has changed, and hence so has the way a player can travel in the game. Players can fly anywhere on flying mounts in the old Azeroth. Your choice of mount is dedicated to which faction belong to: Alliance or Horde. On the con side the portals in Shattrath City and Dalaran no longer exist.
There are five new zones, found above level 80: Mount Hyjal, Vashj‘ir, Deepholm, Uldum and Twilight Highlands.
Players can now receive their quests within the dungeon, whereas before they had to go in search of them. The seven new dungeons are: Blackrock Caverns, Grim Batol, Halls of Origination, The Stonecore, Throne of the Tides, and The Vortex Pinnacle.
If your character dies, you will return as a ghost or in the case of a night-elf a wisp. You will need to get back to the graveyard, where your corpse lays. A button now appears on the screen that will instantly take you there, where you can be resurrected.
There have been some changes to the currency. Arena Points have been replaced with Conquest Points. And you no longer have to visit the Arena to develop your Personal Rating. Also you can earn Justice or Valor Points when you beat Dungeon and raid bosses.
The game introduces a Flexible Raid Lock System, which locks your player-character to a particular raid boss. You can move freely between various raid sizes and groups. The new facility allows you to defeat a new raid boss on a weekly basis.
The new secondary profession is Archaeology. Players can dig up artefacts in the form of fragments they have to collect and piece together. Few are for combat purposes. By following this profession, the player can obtain mounts and fun pets.
Warlock and Hunters no longer need to complete a combat quest, previously a condition at level 1, to get a combat pet.
A character now has three slots for the spell and ability enhancements known as Glyphs. There are three types of glyphs: Minor, Major an Prime. Your player character can obtain up to nine glyphs. You only need to use a glyph once and you have it forever.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is not a stand alone game. You will therefore need to purchase the other World of Warcraft expansions or many of the features will not be available to you.
If you are a subscriber and have reached level 80, by playing the other expansions i.e. The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, you will automatically receive the new Cataclysm content.
