Three thousand year old City of Zadar
Zadar is situated on the eastern coast of the Adriatic sea. It is a beautiful city with marvelous view on the mountain Velebit and the islands. In its archipelago there are more than three hundred islands that represent one of the richest island groups on the Adriatic coast.
The center of the city lies on the peninsula which is surrounded by medieval walls. The view on the city from the walls is breathtaking.
Zadar is three thousand years old and full of historical sites. Many times in history, Zadar was destroyed but each time, after the destruction, it became more beautiful, stronger and richer place.
The city has attractive Romanesque churches: Cathedral of St. Anastasia, Church of St. Chrysogonus and Church of St. Mary. On the most attractive spot is pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donat that was built in the ninth century.
Zadar has one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. You can enjoy the romantic sunset while sitting on the bench at the seafront. The seafront is one of the most beautiful places in the city. On one side of the seafront you can find the oldest Croatian university and on the other you can see the Sea organ and the installation called "Greeting to the Sun". Primary purpose of the Sea organ is to achieve communication with sound and the purpose of "Greeting to the Sun" is to achieve communication with light. You can enjoy in music of waves while sitting by the sea organ. When the night comes, you can enjoy in installation "Greeting to the Sun" – the photo-voltage solar modules absorb the sun energy during the day, and use that energy to throw a lightshow during the night.
From the seafront you can see the unforgettable view on Zadar Channel and the islands of Ugljan and Pasman.
Maraschino is famous liqueur which is produced in Zadar. It is the original liqueur with sweet and bitter taste with aromatic flavor. A liqueur is obtained from the Dalmatian sour cherry.
The youngest museum in Zadar is the Museum of Ancient Glass. The unique collection of 2000 glass objects from the antique era is placed in the museum. The museum building is located on the medieval walls, from which spreads a magnificent view on the harbor.
