First, the Habs shocked the NHL by eliminating the top-seeded Washington Capitals. Last night, they sent Penguins fans home in disbelief, eliminating the defending Stanley Cup champions in seven games . . .
I don't understand how Manny Pacquiao can serve as a congressman while continuing to box. Is he going to "Tweet" his legislative votes from training camp? Honestly, I think he is doing a disservice to his constituents by continuing to box. How can he stay abreast of the nation's issues while preparing for major bouts that will absorb all of his attention? . . .
The Phillies are denying accusations that bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer used binoculars in the bullpen at Coors Field to steal signs during a game earlier in the week. If that was Billmeyer's intention, he should have first phoned Bill Belichick for logistical recommendations . . .
Judging by the ridiculous "The Sky is Falling" coverage surrounding Lebron James' poor performance in Game 5 against the Celtics, one would think James is a shot player ready for retirement . . .

Some of John Maine's home run surrendering misfortune must have rubbed off on K-Rod yesterday as the Mets closer served up a tie-breaking, two-run, ninth inning homer to Roger Bernadina. It was Bernadina's second of the game and it delivered the rubber match of the Washington-New York three-game series to the Nationals . . .
The Yankees averted their fourth straight loss thanks to a strong performance by Phil Hughes in Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against the Tigers. Hughes pitched seven shutout innings while striking out eight and only walking one batter. He also held Detroit to only five hits. The game was much closer than the score indicates (8-0) because up until the ninth inning the Yankees only led 2-0 . . . New York was shutout in the first game of the doubleheader and wasted a strong outing by "The Yankee pitcher whose name shall not be spoken" . . .
Congrats to Tim Wakefield on tallying his 2,000th career strikeout . . .
The Milwaukee Brewers are the poster boys of "Feast or Famine" offense. In the past nine games the Brewers are 5-4. In three of those five wins they scored a minimum of 11 runs. In one game they even scored 17 runs. In their four losses during this stretch they failed to score more than three runs. In three of those games they only scored two runs. (Yesterday they lost to the Braves 9-2) . . .
Sorry, but I don't care how attractive a package the Giants and Jets offer the NFL to host the Super Bowl in 2014, why would the league want to waste its annual corporate bacchanalia in a city known for rough winter weather? . . .
