Hitman Silent Assassin, Hitman Contracts or Hitman Blood Money..?
Which do you prefer and why?
Even though Hitman: Blood Money is the newest (and is therefore, typically the most exciting and in depth) it has a lot more in it than any of the other Hitman games. Obviously the graphics are better and the models and environments have more details, but the actual gameplay and construction of the levels is ten times better in Blood Money in contrast to the other games in the series:
Firstly, the alert meter. In Silent Assassin or Contracts if you walk past a guard too closely or act suspiciously in any way, all of a sudden every guard in the level is shooting at you. It makes it insanely hard to build up a stealthy game run when no matter what costume you get or what route you take, 100 guards are shooting at you on sight.
Secondly, the detail. The things you can do in Blood Money are amazing. There are so many options and choices throughout the levels and heaps of easter eggs and bonuses as well. For example, you can kill the red bird in the level, "Murder of Crows", take his outfit and briefcase and deliver it straight to the targets hideout without problems. Although you sacrifice some realism for this type of gameplay (eg: when dressed as a guard in a smaller level like, "A New Life", you could surely be spotted by the other guards as an intruder) it is outweighed by the detail and effort put into every single level and makes it much more exciting than your average stealth/third person shooter game.
Finally, the levels. For some reason when I think of Silent Assassin, I think of low quality, boring and repetitive levels full of snow and paranoid guards. Blood Money presents a huge range of exciting environments and level layouts that can be appreciated by any player at any skill level. Admittedly, Contracts does have some pretty outstanding levels as well, but all of them are ruined by the enemy AI.
That's why I would choose Blood Money overall. The best thing about it is it doesn't follow on from the other games (not crucially anyway) and it provides a good tutorial level to get new players started but allows experienced players to have some fun as well.
If you are choosing between these three games, don't waste your time on Contracts or Silent Assassin, Blood Money is the way to go.
