Rumors promised us a complete compilation of Dreamcast. Reality offers us a rare and little care product that does justice to the 128-bit Sega.
No one can deny that we are surrounded by a halo of nostalgia that seems almost impossible to overcome. Gives both the developments and innovations, that which marked our past is seared so indelibly impressed upon our minds. Many users live with the spirit of Sega, which remain in the gaming world thanks to the company's blue hedgehog, who long for titles that will convey the same sensations as those enjoyed in the Sega machines either Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Mega CD, 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast ...
In general, Sega is known for being a company that always says listen to their users, even when the requests are so (seemingly) outlandish as Shenmue III (not a few times since the company have said they knew that people wanted and that took into account such requests, even if they are viable at the moment). And like other companies, Sega can play with the nostalgia of his audience to release compilations of their flagship games over the years. Deliveries have been several that have come from collections of Sonic and Mega Drive, whose final collection came to us recently (Ultimate Collection Sega Mega Drive), And it looks like Sega finally decided to move forward and focus on another of his beloved machines: Dreamcast. A machine that does more than a year served a decade and we pay a full tribute (10-year history; The 100 essential: Part 1; Part 2)
In the past E3, in June 2010, Mike Hayes said they were going to launch Dreamcast titles via download services. They spoke no more, no less, that between 18 and 24 degrees, A figure which, by the accounts should cover all timeless hits Japan company in its latest console. The first to arrive was Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi followed ... but both were ports little care left much to be desired and did little justice to the originals. Suddenly started coming siren was going to jump into the market a compilation in a physical format of Dreamcast games. Started the speculation, rumors, pools, hopes ...
Y with official confirmation of that titleCame the disappointments and complaints. Collection Dreamcast, the game that should be collected on one disc a score of 128 bits jewels of Sega, has proved to be a simple compilation of four games: the two already available we mentioned before, along with Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2, two titles that are already about to leave also download services. Eye, not talking about total disappointment because the games are not level, they are great works (even if not treated Sonic Adventure to be in 16:9), but which are those that are more accessible to the general public. Sonic Adventure, in addition to Dreamcast, was released on GameCube and PC. Sega Bass Fishing also joined in the PS2 and Wii (and Japan is a very title of shallow draft in the West, that without the attachment of the rod is designed to go unnoticed again.) Crazy Taxi we have seen in PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, PSP and even Game Boy Advance. And Space Channel 5: Part 2 (why not the second and first?) Also visited PlayStation 2.
That is, we offer possibly more titles that have expanded and scattered from the end of Dreamcast. Users will wonder where the Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Metropolis Street Racer, Skies of Arcadia, Ecco the Dolphin, Virtua Fighter 3, Samba de Amigo, Headhunter, Sega Rally 2, House of the Dead 2, F-355, ChuChu Rocket!, Sonic Adventure 2, Virtua Tennis, Virtua Striker 2, Sonic Shuffle, Confidential Mission, Zombie Revenge, Ooga Booga, Outtrigger, Hundred Swords, Fighting Vipers 2, Dynamite Cop ... It is true that many of these titles also received versions other platforms, but not others, and the full set would make this collection a real collector's item. And since a dream also could have used to get some gems like Japan or the franchise Segagaga Sakura Wars (whose premiere had to rely on Western NIS America, not Sega).
One could argue disk space problems, as the occupying GDs Dreamcast games, but with the current compression measures that should not be an excuse. Clearly, if we go by what officials said Sega, this compilation has all the earmarks of being a "Volume 1", similar to what has been done in PC with Mega Drive Collection. It is not the best policy, and there are better ways to deliver classic Dreamcast as Sega's own has taught us in the past with his other platforms, but at least they should inform the user how many volumes contain the library and what games will appear in the download services / physical format.
Each has its own Dreamcast classic that yearns to revive, but if the first impression is disappointed to see his classic ignored, falls into a disappointment that the subsequent announcement of a new volume with more games will not get smooth. Dreamcast, considered by many as the best consoles of all time, deserved better treatment by their creators. At least, still remember her and has not fallen into limbo as her older sister, Saturn.
