EDEN, A DREAM COME TRUE
You remember this song, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine”, I’m sure you remember. Perhaps this is what Seun Awobade a Marketing Executive with Zain, was thinking of when she got a fashion exhibition idea sometimes ago in May 2008.
Though Seun studied and qualified as a Lawyer in England in 2003, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005, her love and quest for Branding made her return to England where she bagged a Masters Degree in Marketing in 2006/2007.
Now the question is what is the reconciliation between Law, Marketing and then Fashion ?
Well, Seun can be described as an Ideas person. For her, studying Law which she got bored of in her final year opened her up to her natural gifting and also helped her to find her path in life. So for her it wasn’t a wasted time or effort.
In a chat with Goodlife at one of the restaurants along Ozumba Mbadiwe Way, Victoria Island Lagos, the talented young lady revealed that she has always been drawn to fashion which is a passion for her.
She further describes fashion like this “Fashion is as an extension of who you are, it’s what makes you happy, it is how you express yourself”. She also believes fashion should be fluid.
Eden (name of her fashion exhibition) came to her as an idea one day in her office. She realized that quite a number of people she knew always wanted to go abroad every three months for their shopping, and so she cooked up the idea of bringing both fashion vendors and buyers together under one roof. This would create an avenue for vendors to display their creativity as well as get first hand information on what buyers expect from them. It would also give buyers the opportunity to choose from a wide range of varieties.
Though Eden was conceived as an idea in May 2008, it was eventually realized in December 2008. For Seun, her challenge was having the courage to invite vendors for the exhibition. Though there were ups and downs, Eden was eventually held at Diddy Museum, Victoria Island, Lagos with an attendance of about 300 people, and had 14 Vendors out of which 4 of theVendors sold out before 3pm of the exhibition day.
Describing Eden as a success, Seun says that her venture into the project was a personal conviction from God. She further adds that any personal endeavoour should be a spiritual thing.
On her take about Nigerians and fashion, she describes Nigerians as fashionable people who embrace change. She however warned that people don’t have to accept everything that is presented in the “name of fashion”.
For the Lawyer turned Marketer and “Fashionista”, Seun loves beautiful things, Soulful people, and people who kindly speak the truth. For her what attracts her to an individual is the individual’s aura. She however hates being taken advantage of.
The next Eden will be an only Men affair in March watch out ! ! !
