Why should humans go to Hell? Who should they suffer the torture and taste of the agony, eternal for most? Why should humans go to Paradise?
Hell is prescribed for the wicked sinful and Paradise for the good believers.
In Judaism we read in Daniel about ‘The Time of the End' and how two categories of people will arise to be judged and sentenced to reward or punishment:
‘At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued. Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt.' Daniel 12: 1-2
In the Gospel of Matthew, we are told with succinct precision about whom he goes to Hell Fire and who is saved from it and enters the Kingdom of God:
‘The, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, ‘Please explain the story of the weeds in the field.'
‘All right'. He said. ‘I, the son of man, am the farmer who plants the good seed. The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the Angels.
‘Just as the weeds are separated out and burned, so it will be at the end of the world. I, the son of man, will send my angels and they will remove from my Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, and they will throw them into the furnace and burn them. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the godly will shine like the sun in their
Father's Kingdom.' Matthew 13: 36-43
In the Qur'an we are informed as well of Hell Fire and whoever merits it and of those who are save from it and are rewarded with eternal felicity in the Garden of Paradise:
‘Nay, but whosoever has done evil and his sin surrounds him; such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein forever. And those who believe and do good deeds: such are rightful owners of the Garden (of Paradise). They will abide therein forever.' Chapter 2: 81-82
In the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur'an we have thus ample evidence of the reality of Hell Fir and Paradise and of those who go to either. It must be alluded here that precise description and prescription of to types of people, denoting two major classifications of human beings. The first category refers to those who do evil and are sinners. The second category represents those who believe and perform good deeds.
In the same manner we observe not only two classifications of human beings at the end of time but also two types of treatment.
Thus two types of humans. Two types of actions, two types of belief and thinking. Two types of consequences.
We also observe the freedom of choice given to each category of humans. We observe as well that there are divine messages sent to humans at different times, prescribing the same message. In this admonishing we have evidence of a divine message, we have ample evidence of the mind of man as an arbitrator between good and evil, and we see the freedom of choice and the consequences of the choice. We observe also that man is capable to distinguish between good and evil.
In these verses we have ample evidence of man's entire responsibility towards himself and towards God. We see that man chooses for himself either way and pursuits either way. He alone takes the charge of how own responsibility to go to Hell or to paradise.
It is evident in these verses, whether in the Torah, or the Gospel or in the Qur'an, that Man makes his own destiny.
In this we are able to see that the three monotheistic religions namely Judaism, Christianity and Islam, have the one and the same message, providing man with the same responsibility and admonishing the same consequences.
