Their Game is Golf
To the uninitiated, golf may just be another crazy game of whacking at a ball, going after them to try to hit it again and run off again even in weather that could be better spent beneath a solid roof. But this game at ball bashing caught on. You see them everywhere starting from ages that could barely walk to limbs that creak when walked. Tired but exhilarated, wet but craving for drinks, often ending the day with a lot less money but smiling. Continuing tales started at the clubhouse to the course and back to the clubhouse, like no other. Winning, not winning, sometimes that does not matter. Golf games are crazy games continuously being honed to perfection and the craze is far from stopping.
Golf was first played in 1700's in the fields of Scotland, starting from the simplest hitting clubs and wooden balls with simple holes in the ground. It has developed into one of the world's well-loved sport. Since then major refinements were made and the best in cutting edge technology adopted. And the business of the golf game grew.
Golf Courses. From the grassy plains that shepherds knew, golf courses were developed into the most sophisticated resorts employing the best landscape architects that could be found. Today these courses compete with each other for breathtaking sites, first class amenities, world-class services and professional staffs.
Golf Balls alone that started in all likelihood as stones in the ground is a story in evolution itself. From wooden balls that cracks after several hits came the feather cored balls that later were coated with resistant materials to the gutties and the balata-covered variety. Some manufacturers even went far into developing golf balls made of Titanium, others Magnesium or Tungsten. Some are even multi-metal made balls. All in the name of improvements in durability and control.
Golf Clubs is another feature of golf game implement that are sticklers to technological advancements. Golf clubs include the best selection of metal woods, irons, wedges, putters, hybrids and drivers. Continues research by big golf game supplies giants churns out clubs that is always aimed to improve from previous releases in terms of shot distances, playability, placements of centers of gravity stability, creation of better spins, control, fairways finding forgiveness, accuracy and scoring potential.
The Golf Game also evolved its own variants. From the resort type of playing greens it was developed into the much smaller miniature golf which turned out to be popular and more or less a serious golf game depending on the country where this variant of the game is played. It did not stop from there though. This golf game was further miniaturized by the Pitch and Putt. These novelty versions of the sport also known as midget game and crazy golf, rose to popularity during the late 30's when golf rose to wide popularity. While this version of the game is patterned after the real golf game, it offers animated, goofy and trick hazard courses that retain the fun of the golf game in its own manner.
Golf channel The popularity of the sport inspired Joseph Gibbs, a media entrepreneur of Alabama, to devise the concept the golf channel in 1991. Together with the golfer and golf course designer Arnold Palmer and some 80 million dollars, the network was put up and operated. It started airing live tournament golf games in January 1995.
