From the Middle Ages to 21st Century – the History of Humanity Reflected by a Single Game
The Enlightenment, colonization, the progress of communication, the age of technology, and the recent post-modern times – these periods and trends have each brought massive change to the world. It was indeed in America that the game was given the name “Blackjack” and took on its modern form. Facilitated by travel and communications, playing Blackjack became extremely popular throughout the continent as well as back in Europe – so popular that the American government introduced regulations that banned it and made it an underworld game in the US, without however managing to undermine its growing popularity. Many new varieties emerged as the game traveled around the world, but this growth was inconsequential compared to the next big development – the emergence of computers, the Internet, and the widespread accessibility of advanced technologies.
Blackjack spread like wildfire soon after the first online casino came into being in the mid-1990s.
