The myth of Medusa is gripping. She was not always the monster we think of today, and in myth, was once beautiful. A sister of three, known as the Gorgon sisters, were children of an ancient marine deities. Medusa was a priestess in Athena's temple, and when she became a lover of the "Lord of the Sea" Poseidon under the roof of the temple, Athena became enraged with jealousy, she turned Medusa's beautiful hair in to serpents and made her face so horrible, that any one who seen her face would turn to stone.
It's a fascinating myth and makes for a stunning costume for any girl out there, looking for a truly unique look this Halloween. This costume and look represents beauty, power, fear, love, desire and treachery, a great collection for an intriguing mystical feeling when you dress up like Medusa.
The story of Medusa to me is actually a pretty sad one, considering she was seduced no doubt, harshly punished, and when she looked at people, they turned to stone, really you have to emphasize with her.
She was then killed by Perseus, her head cut from the body and brought to Athena, sad, but excellent story telling.
