The Chronos

It had started its journey when the universe was yet young and the fires of creation many times hotter and brighter than today. It had travelled for eon after eon through the interstellar void alone but almost all knowing. This was the Chronos, an entity of awesome potency and terrible power. Now it became aware of other voices in the cosmos. The voices of man. Out of the abyss at the edge of known space and time through the great spiral arm of the galaxy it set its course toward the noise. What creatures were these that have the audacity to interrupt its long, long meditation ? Inexorably the Chronos moved towards the tiny, pale yellow sol at the very edge of its vision. It had crossed distances incalculable to man and overcome dangers and obstacles beyond comprehension but on all its wanderings, its strange trajectory through the void it had never encountered what it encountered now...

Via an ancient instinct, older than the genome of man the entity decided to divide itself. The dimensions of the Chronos meant that it could divide itself into thousand entities each larger than any of humans' most massive creations. It detached a sliver of itself. This weighed more than an entire city of man, composed of alloys and materials that predated the creation of Earth and its galaxy they were completely impervious to all known technology and analysis. Again the Chronos divided itself. This time a splinter the size of a continent gracefully peeled off to reveal an incandescent core of brilliance. All in perfect silence the three masses continued their progressions. Names were designated to these smaller entities - even now expanding and developing along new lines of thought, knowledge and intent.
