How to Buy a Wedding Band
The proposal has been made. The day has been set. Invitations have been mailed. Even the cake has been picked out. You have nothing left to do but wait until your special day rolls around, right? Not quite. Many couples can easily forget wedding band selection, especially the men as they feel picking out an engagement ring is the only jewelry store visit that they need to make. Your wedding ring is a physical representation of your love and your status of being forever taken as belonging to a special partner and does not need to be left out of your wedding plans.
First the two of you need to sit down and decide what type of precious metal you want your rings to be. This should be a couple decision since matching wedding bands really help to signify your link as a pair instead of simply being two married people who are married to individuals other than the two of you. A 14k white gold wedding band is truly one of the most popular at the moment since that sheen of white is more in fashion than the traditional yellow gold of your parents and grandparents. However, if you both have a little more money in your budget, you can spend it on a platinum wedding band instead of a 14k white gold wedding ring since you get the same bright silver like shine in a ring that is more durable and does not have a slight yellowish tint from the raw gold in it that shows in various light. If none of the previous choices are really your style, you can look at rose gold wedding bands which are made from the different yet special gold and copper alloy that gives the metal a pink or reddish coloring. Any of these precious metals can be used for women's wedding bands or men's wedding bands as you both will be needing a ring on your special day. Next, the two of you need to consider whether you would like gemstones, or diamonds in the wedding bands. The traditional male wedding ring tends to shy away from any type of gem and keeps to a simple but rather thick band. Yet, with progress in fashion and the idea of equality in any and all aspects of life, many couples want completely matching wedding rings instead of the woman's having jewels while the man's does not. Currently there are multiple options for those couples who want gems in their wedding bands for both parties. Diamond eternity bands which are simple circles with are covered in a single chain of small, round cut diamonds are very popular for this task of matching as even the men's rings still maintain a manly look with a thicker width but completely match the one of their wife.
If the man simply cannot imagine a gemstone in his band but his future wife would like gems in hers, do not be afraid to buy different bands as long as you choose matching metals of course. A five stone wedding band (the stones generally being diamonds) are the perfect compliment to a diamond engagement ring instead of a plain band that almost seems to take away from the engagement ring's sparkle. With so many proposals being made with sapphire rings or a diamond and sapphire mixed ring, a matching diamond and sapphire wedding band is still possible. Look for a diamond and sapphire ring that looks nice when pressed against the special engagement ring and that neither takes away from the other. Just be sure to compare the two rings directly against each other before buying so that the shades of blue in the sapphires and the crystal clarity of the diamonds match perfectly.
