Is it possible to transfer files from a non-functional computer to a normal computer or laptop?
If an old PC cannot be turned on, would it still be possible to somehow transfer files stored on that PC to a functioning PC or laptop? If this type of transfer of files from a non-functioning PC to an functioning PC were possible, what device would be used to enable the transfer of data, and how would it be done?
Assuming here that the reason the old PC doesn't boot up has nothing to do with its hard drive, yes, you can transfer the files. You need to remove the hard drive (where all the files are stored) and install it in another (working) PC, boot that up and then copy the files from the old drive to another medium that the laptop can access (CD, DVD, external USB hard drive). Alternatively, you can invest in a hard drive enclosure that will allow you to plug the original hard drive into a USB port on the laptop. Good luck!
