What exactly is HDMI and does it really make that much of a difference?
I'm just wondering what exactly HDMI is. I keep hearing good things about how this type of cable and how it's "necessary". I have many HD channels through Direct TV. I get great picture and everything. But what if I used an HDMI cord from my Direct TV receiver into my television? Will it make a significant amount of difference?
If you have Directv High Def and don't have an HDMI connection, then you are using Component Video and no, it will make no difference for you... other than the fact that the HDMI is one cable versus 3 for component & 1 or 2 for audio. It makes for a much neater and easier connection, but that is it. There are certain high end AV hardware which does require an HDMI connection in order to get all possible performance but you are not saying you have anything like that, so my guess is you do not.
