Can a Sega Genesis 3 play Megadrive games?

I read somewhere awhile ago that the Sega Genesis model 3 can also play Megadrive games. Does anyone know for a fact that this is true or not? Also, if this is the case, can a Sega CDX play them too?

well yes they casn but they are prone to crash the drive in your system, its why people stopped trying it. about 80% of people who tried it had their systems stop working within a week
