Pen Nsw
what and how to tell my neighber?
about 20minutes ago my dog had killed my neighbours cat. We've been here for a year and the cat (among others) are costantly comming through the backyard. Even though the dogs are in pens and there is plenty of thourofare for the cats, this one seemed to like teasing the dogs by sitting in front of the pens, walking along the fence etc. Don't get me wrong no animal deserves to die and my dogs are placid. Both my housemate and I tried to restrain the dog but unfortunately....
Anyway, I would really appreciate any help on how to tell my neighbour (i dont know them - townhouses) plus is there any grounds for them to complain to council (the cat was on my property)

The right and most difficult thing to do is to knock on their door and tell them. Apologize (even though it is in NO way your fault) and offer to help bury the cat (though they probably won't want you to). This is a risk that owners take when allowing their cat to go outside. Many dogs have at least some degree of prey drive and you have been responsible by keeping your dogs in your yard and furthermore- penned up. Because the cat was on your property, you are at no fault whatsoever. I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. It's awful that you have to go through this because of someone else's irresponsibility.
