Why wont Mad Catz Beat Pad work?

I just bought a Mad Catz Beat pad for the Wii to use with Walk it out. When I plug it in the first controller the Wii system is not recognizing it. Is there something that needs to be done to configure the mat or does this brand just not work with Walk it out?
