Would you mind critiquing this small poem?

Your skin appears
to be so coarse,
thick like an elephant's
narrow canyons
of aging leather,
protective of raging,
eroding weather.

It works as a simple statement of fact. And it works metaphorically in so many ways. It reminded me of Bob Dylan's "Just Like a Woman." It's not that you imitated him, it's just that you are dealing with the same subject in very different ways. This poem is "small" only in its number of lines. It comes from a person whose heart is sensitive to others, and thus to me it is living large. There is one word that doesn't seem to fit, "encounters." Try "is touched by," see if that works better. Reading this gave me a lot of energy. I guess because I was looking without seeing, and listening without hearing. I listened to you, and that made me able to listen to myself. Thanks.
