How do I get a GBA game to work in my DS?

I bought a GBA game to play in my DS but when I inserted the cartridge into the unit nothing happens. The unit recognises there is a game pak present but I cannot initialise it. Any advise please.
When I switch on the DS and get to the menu page it says 'There is a DS Option Pak inserted' but I don't know what to do next to get it to work. Could there be a problem with the game?

on the menu scroll down and click gba game or something like that. it's the bottommost option. it doesn't do it automatically.
